Looking Back on 2022...

As we gear up for 2023 (New Year's Resolutions anyone?), we're taking a quick trip down memory lane to review all that we accomplished and celebrated last year…at least, on our blog (and a couple wins that we haven’t shared!). What better way is there to start off the year, than by reviewing how far we’ve come, to help us decide where to grow. Join us for our look back…and stay tuned as we continue to develop.

Launch of the JL Social Club

January 2022

We kicked off the year with the formation of the JL Social Club, with the intention of rebuilding and enhancing our culture of fun and community (that was so rudely interrupted by the pandemic), while helping us to exemplify our values. In this inaugural year, the committee came through with not only fun and festive celebrations, but also with opportunities to give back to our community. The JL Social Club carries this spirit forward into the new year with a blood drive for Children’s Hospital of LA this month. We look forward to JLSC’s new initiatives and plans for 2023.

The Grand Opening of Factory #7

March 2022

We were incredibly proud and excited to announce the grand opening of plants #5 and #7 in March, the largest in the history of our company. The addition of these factories gave us the space needed to grow our business, while improving overall organization and management. This growth in our manufacturing capacity allowed us to take on new retail partners (in stores now)!

April 2022

For the first of our biannual treks to High Point Market, our team created an environment that explored the intersection of nature and technology. We utilized artists, Paige Cox and Gina Franco, to create show-stopping installations to communicate our theme (a first for us). We also continued our collaboration with Otis College of Art & Design’s student creative agency, Design Lab, bringing our trend stories to our website for the first time, sharing our trend research with all of you. The result? A market that wowed online and off.

Product Spotlight: (re)Formation

April 2022

At Spring 2022 Market, we launched a new custom collection–(re)Formation! An expansion of our custom upholstery offering, it joins Design Lab and Choices as part of our customizable furniture programs. Centered around modular and universal pieces, (re)Formation allows consumers to create unique configurations that fit both their space and their style–they can keep it simple with a tuxedo arm, or add one of the three one-arm chairs to add a personal touch. In a nutshell? It’s “modular amplified for individuals who need greater flexibility to suit transitional lifestyles.”

June 2022

We embrace diversity and inclusivity year-round, and Jonathan Louis gave our employees an opportunity to promote it by sharing their unique experiences around Pride, acceptance, home, and more. This was also our inaugural blog post, kicking off weekly entries that (hopefully) informed, taught, and entertained.

The Next Generation

July 2022

With so much homegrown talent, it only made sense for us to showcase the variety of career paths that our employees have carved out for themselves and how we support their development. Whether they’ve been here for one year or 20, we enjoyed sharing their unique stories and experiences at Jonathan Louis, and how we have helped–and continue to help–shape their career.

A Day in the Life Series

August 2022

We took a peek inside a day in the life of our team members at HQ, starting with our CEO, Javier Sanchez. In the on-going series, we get a chance to walk a mile (ok, a block) in people’s shoes and gain a sliver of insight as to what a day may look like to them (and learn all about their coffee habits. We are a highly caffeinated group).

JL x Otis College of Art & Design Product Development Class

September 2022

In the fall, our Product Development team expanded our ongoing collaboration with Otis College by sponsoring a class. The class was open to third-year students and was a “project based course bringing consumer products from concept to market.” We tasked the students to come up with a “setting of the future,” targeting our future Gen Z customers. At the end of the semester, JL selected one team’s concept to continue to develop and eventually showcase at our next market.

October 2022

The second of our biannual trips to High Point Market, we explored the definition of home this fall market, with the theme of “The Journey Home.” Looking beyond a dwelling, we celebrated the sometimes winding path that we take to find our community, our place in the world, and what home means to us. We continued our collaboration with Otis College of Art & Design’s Design Lab, which created a custom illustrated story to match the Design Lab experience.

December 2022

Rounding out the year, our JL Social Club hosted a month of festivities for the holidays. From themed outfit competitions to raucous “reindeer” games to cheerful holiday parties at HQ and our LA factories, JL Social Club pulled out all the stops to ensure a merry end-of-year.
